Memorial Day

Monday, May 31st, 2010

While I’m as anti-war as they come, I will still take a second to say Thanks and to remember the fallen ones on this memorial day.

On a lighter note: cakes, cupcakes, weddings. The usual, really.

A flowery cake for Sarah on her birthday, ordered by her mom. Vanilla and cherry filling!

And to Robin, and her new husband, a big congratulations! I love it when I get to make cupcakes for people’s weddings. It feels like a total privilege. Chocolate bomb cupcakes, Red Velvet with “cream cheese” frosting, and Lemon Poppyseed (my personal) favorite. Donned with tiny handmade flowers and turquoise butterflies. I hate the word “whimsical”, but that’s the vibe I got from her wedding invitation, so that’s what I went with.

Hopefully everyone is taking the day off and throwing some veggies on the grill, and enjoying good friends, good family and sweet lovin’!

kiddos and weddings, once again!

It really is kiddo birthday and wedding season, all wrapped up into one.

Sugar Tooth has been super busy making children happy, and helping couples find delicious matrimonial bliss.

This is a picture of a transformer cake for a little boy named Malcolm. Pretty cute, right?

In other news, Sugar Tooth Bakery, with the help of the lovely and talented Billie Latzer, had the privilege of baking for Brent and Kalleen Nutting on their wedding this past sunday! Hands down, an awesome wedding. They are bike kids, so we made a flower lined cobblestone road cake for the top of the tower, and tons of cupcakes with a variety of sculpted gum-paste flowers, and silk flowers on top of them.

The topper was a rad tandem bike, that Brent made a bike rack for. The rack consisted of a chain ring, spokes soldered to it, and then the cake was VERY carefully lowered onto it, and the bike VERY carefully placed on the rack above. It was really cool; Brent did an excellent job on that part.

At the wedding, there was a QUEEN cover band, a STOOGES cover band, a bike parade with the attendees and pedicabs for those who couldn’t bike AND they rode off into the sunset on a Tandem bike with balloons and noise-making cans streaming behind.

Everyone was dressed amazingly, and when I see some pictures, I will try to remember to post them.

Either way, we were thrilled to participate in their amazingly awesome and special day. Congrats to them!
Above are a few photographs, which are definitely NOT up to par…but they give you the idea.

It’s summer in Austin, Texas. Hope everyone is staying cool! More updates to come…

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

So, I’m in the process of getting my website together (which has been a loooong time in the works), which is why I don’t blog here much anymore.

Mostly, I’m doing Sugar Tooth Bakery stuff….which you can find at www.sugartoothbakery.com (once its finally done), at The Sugar Tooth Bakery myspace OR at the Sugar Tooth Fan Page

Anyway, I’m going to post a couple of pictures of cute things anyway….Since I’m here!

And a Wedding and Groom’s Cake I recently Did. The wedding cake is a chocolate bomb: chocolate cake, chocolate frosting, chocolate shavings on the outside:

The Groom is an artist, who often works in puzzles….So a giant puzzle piece for the Groom’s cake (Vanilla cake, strawberry filling, vanilla buttercream icing):

’tis the dang season…

Alright, I’ve been creating and baking and making and cleaning and working. But I will NOW blog. To at least fill you in on a few fun things I’ve made as of late.

Hmmm….Let’s see….

First, prison escape cupcakes, probably the best idea ever dreamed up (by my friend Pat), delivered to sir Chad Koeplinger upon his guest spot at Rock of Ages Tattoos, Austin.

Prison Escape Cupcakes

The secret shall not be unveiled!

This cake was ordered for Jean from her son. I thought it was funny because of the “old lady” part. She said it was the best birthday cake she’d ever had, and ordered another cake from me for their Christmas Eve Dinner. That one will be posted as well.

I have, of course, been wanting an excuse to make one of those giant cupcake cakes that people make. AND, Leila, my friend’s daugher, LOVES cupcakes. SO, there’s the perfect excuse…a birthday order! Not bad for my first one. Also super cute when next to a regularly sized cupcake. I love it, and so did she!

And, as I said before, Frankie’s mom Jean loved her birthday cake so much, she asked me to make a Red Velvet Christmas cake for her family. Simply decorated, with cream cheese frosting and non-pereil sprinkles, and a hand made gum-paste holly leaf.

I hope everyone is having a happy and healthy holiday season. And wishes for a peaceful and full new year ahead of us all. I’m ready for 2009 to be over. I definitely am looking forward to a new beginning, whatever that may mean.
